In 2023 we opened a state-of-the-art silversmithing workshop on the HBF campus supported by a generous donation of tools, machinery and books by the late Master silversmith Graham Stewart. The workshop is home to a Senior Silversmith who oversees the Workshop - Katie Watson. In addition we support three early career silversmiths over a 12 month tenancy as part of our Springboard programme. Current Springboard Silversmith tenants are Jessica Awaritefe, Freya Jeavons and Iona Hall. All work can be purchased directly from the silversmiths and commissions for special pieces are undertaken from the Workshop.
Applications for the Springboard tenancies are by open call and are available to silversmiths with at least three years post graduate experience. The workshop also provides shorter residencies for British and international silversmiths to develop new work and participate in cultural exchange. Silversmith tenants host workshops and classes for the local community as well as receiving dedicated time to learn new skills via a series of masterclasses fully funded by HBF.
