Clay Foundation (6 Week Workshop @ Redbraes Pottery)

The Clay Foundations 6 week wheel Course is a weekly 6 session evening pottery course suitable for total beginners and those who have just begun their pottery journey.

Over 6 weeks, you will be introduced to the core techniques of wheel throwing, trimming, decorating and glazing pottery. You will learn how to prepare clay, center, and throw: bowls, cylinders and more challenging shapes. You will learn to finish and trim your pieces, add handles and applied elements, before personalising your pottery with surface decoration, colour and glazes. At the end of this course, you will have a strong foundational understanding of how to use the wheel and make a pot from concept to completion.

Each course is limited to three participants to ensure enough attention is given to each of you as well as having full access to the necessary tools.

Every Monday evening 6pm-9pm

-        24th August - 5th October

Every Tuesday evening 6pm-9pm

-       25th August- 6th October

What's Included:

Your own wheel and clay supply each session

All tools, slips, glazes, and firing.

4-6 professionally fired pieces included (ready for collection 3–4 weeks after course end)

Course Structure:

Week 1-4: The fundamentals of throwing techniques and refining skills.

Week 5: Surface decoration and design

Week 6: Choosing and applying Glazes

Things to Note:

Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing and shoes for getting messy, aprons will be provided.

Please ensure you wear your hair up for these sessions.

For the best first experience throwing on the wheel, please ensure your nails are trimmed short.
