Painting in the Garden - Acrylics (Part 1)

An introductory course for acrylic painting on paper in HBF gardens for beginners and those with a little more experience.

-
May 20, 2026

Acrylics can be used for sketches/studies as well as more finished work.

We will be learning more about this water-based painting material on paper and gain experience using the paint thinly like a wash, plus thicker techniques, as well as colour mixing. We will also be learning to see things differently, as simple shapes and forms, developing your observational skills and concentration and see how absorbing and relaxing this practical activity can be.

We will practice and experiment by suggesting texture, shape, form, value/tone, depth/atmospheric perspective, with awareness for mark making and composition.

Subjects will include various environmental views around the gardens and glass house - foliage, flowers, trees.

Selecting the right brushes will be an important aspect.

There will be a second course in this series, which you might be interested in on June 17th.

Please bring a packed lunch.
