A relaxing introductory course for Acrylic Painting on canvas in our gardens for beginners and those with a little more experience.
11 AM - 3 PM
We will make sketches/studies on paper and develop exciting new work. Our practice will develop skills like observation, concentration as well as our imagination.
We will consider how our thoughts and feelings affect our artwork, and how colour has a strong impact on our mood.
We will be learning more about this water-based painting material and exploring colour mixing on this new surface.
Subjects will include various environmental views around the gardens and glass house - foliage, flowers, trees.
There will be a tutor talk and/or demonstration of painting methods. Student practice - students will have the opportunity to try out methods and share their work. There will be plenty of 1:1 Tutor advice.

Pencils - HB, B, rubber,
Cartridge paper or multi-media paper, small canvas boards, small primed, stretched canvases.
(Canvases should be bought as pre-primed, OR be painted with acrylic primer before the class).
Set of acrylic paints to include eg - cadmium red, cadmium yellow, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, burnt sienna, black, white, round and flat synthetic brushes eg. no. 12, 14, 16, plus 1 inch decorator’s brush.
Palette knife, plastic palette, water pots

These classes are led by Scottish Borders based artist Christopher Kent who studied at Bath, Sunderland and Newcastle. He has exhibited his work across the UK, in Europe and USA, in group as well as solo exhibitions(including the Royal Scottish Academy).
He was selected for the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2016.He has written and published 3 graphic novels.As well as painting and drawing, his practice has also included wood sculpture and has worked on a range of private and public commissions, including for Marie Curie and the National Trust. His work is held in a variety of national collections, (including the City Art Centre, Edinburgh. His work also includes performance, which he has written and performed - ‘Compulsion’ (about Orson Welles), and ‘The Phantom’(about Edgar Allan Poe).
Christopher has run a range of workshops and classes over the years - from drawing, woodcarving and wood sculpture to acrylics, watercolours and egg tempera painting.
