The deep nourishment of celebrating harvest is felt in every culture, across every century. People have always gathered to honour abundance: the generosity of the earth, the cycles of growth and plenty, the intricate web of life that feeds us all. It's a practice rooted in gratitude, wonder and genuine connection to the natural world.

Yet this knowledge – of where our food comes from, how seeds, seasons and soil work together, and why protecting that fragile system matters – is fading from our collective memory. Drawing on poignant literary works and other voices exploring our relationship with the land, we invite you to join the boom saloon team for a very special zine making workshop celebrating what harvest teaches us: about abundance, interconnection and why the natural world is worth protecting.

You'll learn the history and craft of zine-making, then get hands-on. Through cutting, sticking, writing and collaging, you'll create a zine that celebrates the harvest: perhaps the food you love, the seasons you cherish or the insects and soil and rain that make it all possible. Zines are fast, accessible and powerful; they're tools for spreading messages that matter.

Your finished zine becomes something you can share with family, friends and community. It becomes a small but genuine act of care, helping others pause and appreciate what sustains us all. Through this act of celebration and witness, you'll discover why protecting our natural world isn't a burden – it's a privilege. Regardless of experience or level, join us to create something beautiful that matters: a piece of work that can help others see what's at stake, and why it's worth protecting.

Please bring along your favourite works on harvest and the natural world to inspire your zine; photocopying facilities available on the day

HBF Glasshouses

boom saloon is an independent publisher dedicated to democratising creativity for good. We publish books and magazines, both in-house and for clients, which explore the connection between the arts and social change. Profits from these fund further publications, made in collaboration with people facing complex personal challenges such as substance misuse, homelessness, forced displacement and dementia. Building upon the concept of Asset Based Community Development, we begin by identifying creative talents who could benefit from the nourishment and support of their skills. Working in collaboration, together we create books and magazines to amplify these voices. Our work often addresses issues that should be better supported by the state, yet we receive no continuous public funds or state aid. Our work is powered by an international collective of members, who enjoy a series of discounts and events in thanks for their support. Most importantly, they make it possible for us to publish voices too often silenced and use paper and ink as a circular model for change.
